I recently bought a ´79 xs400, which apparently is considered a Maxim (?), and I have a few questions...
the bike has not been ridden in almost four years, although when parked , had been ridden often. I´ve ordered a battery and will have a new chain put on. What all do I need to check (stuck pistons I´ve heard about?)
Also, the seat which is on it is stock. I am 5´2" and am considering shaving the seat down a bit. Might there be a better option in a replacement seat? Anyone know? I would like to lower and possibly narrow the nose a bit.
And, damn, are the pedal arms made of cast iron?!?!
Oh, yeah, she´s only got 4587 miles on her!
This is my first bike. I took the MSF safety course last month and am anxious to get her going. Any feedback on how these 400´s ride, or in terms of a beginner bike would be helpful and appreciated! Those damn cruisers seem too unstable to me. This Yamaha I like because the bike seems to be under me, not way out in front, or up above me!!! Any comments????
