Hello,
It depends if it needs a little or a lot of work. I am told that one in decent shape is in that ballpark, and that a fully showroom restored and rebuilt 72 could be roughly valued at up to 7200.00. Google Sportsters of that vintage for sale and you will find a range of prices, and descriptions of the general condition of each bike. Write down half a dozen, take a few notes on each and the asking price, and you will be able to compare the one he is looking at.
