Yeah, It can be done. A buddy and I did it it to my ´72 eight years ago. Near-complete kits are available. Everything you described is true, but take a look at your sprocket cover. On the back may already be the outline for the notch you need to cut. A high-speed cutoff wheel will do it, might save a couple $$. Also watch out for the cheezy handlebar switches in the kit. I´ve seen ´em short against the bars if you don´t solder them just so and use tape or rtv. You will also need to replace your battery, battery box and oil tank. Electric start battery is huge compared to stock kicker battery. These DID NOT come in the kit, so you´ll be checking out the parts boxes in some old coots´ garage. Also, a little looking at the swap meets found me a clutch drum with the starter gear already on it.Try to go for the heaviest starter relay and solenoid you can, as I had a few problems with them sticking.
