Last year I bought a 1982 Sporster, that had been setting for years. It ran and idled fine, but had a dead spot on acceleration. I rebuilt the carburetor and the accelerator pump looked like screen wire. A new kit to rebuild the carburetor cost me about $30.00, and included a new accelerator pump. Installed the complete kit and my problem is solved.
