I just bought my 74 and this is all new to me, but from what I´ve been able to find out about the right side shift is that they were on 70-74. What I was told by as friend is that those were the years that Harley-Davidson was in heavy competion with triumph. I´m not sure if it´s true, but it sounds right to me.
