Stop using straight-weight motor oil and go to Castrol GTX 20-50. Makes things a lot easier. I´ve been riding these for 40 years. My (bought new) 1977 XLCH is very easy to start. It was the magneto bikes with 60 or 70 weight that were so hard to start. Most of the problem came from not being able to spin the mag fast enough.
