I also own a ´72 XLH, although yours sounds like it is in a lot better shape. I would suggest that you obtain either the Clymer HD Sportsters 1959-1985 service manual or the Haynes HD Sportsters 1970-2001 "Owner´s Workshop Manual." Both of these books are available through the internet at a discount price (simply run a search for the titles or model). Be careful with the bike! The drum brakes are not the same as the newer disk brakes, and the shifter being on the right side instead of the left can get you into real trouble even if it is not an emergency. When I first rode mine, I almost ran into a car because I kept pushing the shifter instead of the rear brake. Take care, Greg |
