I am also thinking about getting a cm400a (1981?). Found one, and owner is thinking of selling. It is in excellent shape. Not a mark on it. It only has 4016 miles on it. However he lost the key and it hasn´t been ridden, or started in four years. I am looking to get back into riding, but due to an accident, my left hand is no longer strong enough to pull a clutch. I think this would be a good bike for me, but I am curious how much I should think about paying for it. I´m sure it will also need a tune-up, and from what i´ve heard, a carb cleaning, or rebuild. Is it something I might be able to do on my own, or are there any special problems with these bikes? Also, where can I get an owners manual, and service book?
