You will need the service manual for your motorcycle, before you attempt this job. You will need the details of spring length, oil level and type of oil. If your front forks are air adjustable or connected together to equalize pressure it could change the process and again you will need the manual. This is the standard process, basic forks only. Remove the front wheel. Remove the brake caliper, do not loosen the brake hose fittings unless it is necessary. Unscrew the left and right fork bolts. Loosen the front fork attaching bolts at the bottom fork bridge tube. Remove the fork tubes from the bottom fork bridge, rotating them by hand as necessary. You will need a soft jawed vise or you may pad the jaws of a conventional vise. Be careful not to scratch, scrape or bend the tubes. Hold the fork tube in a vise. Loosen the cushion spring inner bolt. Do NOT damage the fork surface. Use care when loosening the bolt or a spring will pop out. Pour out any remaining fork oil by pumping the fork tube up/down. Measure the free length of the spring, compare it to the spec, to see if you can safely use it as is or you need to replace it. ( 18.9\ |
