First of all, please consider restoring this bike rather than chopping it up. There were so few of them made that to lose another one is heartbreaking. The 78 Z1-Rs main weakness was that it came during the era when engine technology had outclassed frame technology. The spindly tube rear swingarm was usually the first thing to go, replaced by a box swingarm that was usually slightly longer. Also typical was to ditch the airbox and factory pipe for a set of K&Ns and a Kerker.
I don´t know who would still make these box profile swingarms, but I would try ebay first or contact any long-time Kawasaki dealer or vintage parts dealer,who may still have something around.
As you say, this was not a high speed bike, as it would start to really shake above 90 MPH.
