The basic drill cold is ... fuel to prime, Choke on. now bring the engine to compression, using the decompression lever push about half way down on the kickstart. release decompressor and kick. If it doesn´t start after the first couple kicks turn off choke and the gas and continue process till it sounds interested or starts. The SR has a more complicated carb than the early XT and TT models and replacing it with one from one of those models will make it easier to start.
