Shift Paddle

Hi, I have a Kawasaki Eliminator 125 1999 model. Today when I took the bike our to shops noticed that that shift paddle is not right. I had to press really down on it get the bike in 1st gear. It had lots of play in it. I believe my next door kid stood on it as it was perfect yesterday. So basically, everytime I am shifting the gear down, I have to struggle as the shaft just drops down and then come up again. Please any idea how to fix it, or you think, the kid broke the shaft? Thanks
