Main problem with the SS125 was the contact breaker hidden inside the alternator rotor on the left-hand side of the motor. They were very prone to wear and needed regular adjustment. I overcame this problem on my then-girlfriends machine by fitting an after-market (Sparkrite?) unit, which meant the contact breakers were no longer carrying any electrical current and so could be well lubricated, therefore reducing/preventing wear. Another problem with the SS two-strokes in general was water-ingress into the ignition switch. On both the SS125 and my SS175 and SS250 I disassembled the switch and drilled a drainage hole in the base, for any excess water to drain out, before re-assembling the switch with plenty of waterproofing. Most of the bullet connectors in the wiring loom were also prone to corrosion from water and benefitted from greasing and/or sealing. Good luck :) |
