The XLH & XLCH both had kick start up until either ´67 or ´68. Then the XLH got the electric starter while the XLCH stayed with the kick starter. Because the XLH had the electric starter it also had a larger battery. The larger battery partly hung out of the frame as did the oil tank. The XLCH´s battery and oil tank were inside the frame. On the XLH the battery dug into the riders left leg and the oil tank burned his right leg when stopped.
