I had a similar problem which turned out to be a faulty connection between the loom and the ignition control module. Someone had cut the plug connector off the loom and tried to hard wire it and bodge it all up with mastic so I also had to have a new loom fitted, hope you dont have to do the same! Be careful though as the first replacement module I purchased second hand also did not work so ended up having to buy a new one anyway.
