I have a 78 sx250 and am having the same issue. I didn´t think it had points, are you talking about the ignition pickup. I´ve replaced nearly ever part in the circuit. There is a possibility I´ve replaced a bad part with another bad part. New parts are getting tough to find. Any advice is appreciated
