I bought my Trophy as a fire damaged insurance write off and had had her on the road for about a week now, recently returning to biking after a 10 year layoff. I find it easy to ride despite some severe rustiness on my part. The motor is AWESOME, trickling along from 25mph in top to 90 in just a twist of the wrist, if you need to think about overtaking something, you´ve probably overshot. Handling is intersting, I feel a long way from the front wheel at all times and the weight is noticeable if you try to hustle down bumpy roads. However, it handles very minor roads in comfort and has so far been very predictable, I´ve even managed my first full lock feet up U-turn since I gave up trials riding 20 years ago. I guess it just feels like I might end up in trouble if I try too hard (OK, I know I should take it easier after such a long layoff, but..... you know how it is!). Dropping the yolks by 15mm has helped. Servicing is a pig with over engineering apparent at every turn of the Allen key. I thought I was going to have to take the engine out of the frame to get the carbs off for instance. Only problems I´ve had have been a slight misfire (traced to dirty fuel after having stood for a while) and the RHS exhaust inexplicably deciding to foul the swing arm preventing the suspension from working fortunately at very low speed and with only slight damage to the stinless shroud on the silencer. |
