When you say you turned the gas over - what do you mean by this - that you spilled gas as you were filling it or that you turned the throttle over.
Either way I would suspect that either your petcock or rubber gas line is leaking onto the top of the Engine. There are a few cavities at the top of the Engine under the gas tank that could hold the gasoline. I would remove the gas tank before trying to start it again so you don´t have a fire hazzard. But after all that- I would think that you only have a minor problem. PS - Don´t forget to turn the gas on the petcock on - We´ve all done that before.
