Dear freind,
I hate to put you off but if the bike type was not officially imported into france then you will probebly have a really hard time of it . if officially imported , you need to contact the importers and get them to give you a copy of the testing documents and certs. that proved that the bikes complied with french legislation. This can cost up to 200 euro. Then find a local concessionaire who verify that the bike you have is the same as the one on the cert , has not been modified or tuned ( we have 100 bhp restriction here...)
Again this will cost). Then go to the local Prefecture or Sous-prefecture who should all the paperwork being in order issue you with a french log book(carte grise) a and number after having fleeced you for a few more euros depending on the cc of the machine.
I nearly went through all that but bought another frame with French plates and rebuilt the bike around it as it was far simpler and cheaper . plus my bike was identical to the official French model.I guess you may not have that option ....
Good luck!
