Hey, interesting stuff. I had a 1988 GPX 600 R in the (seldom seen) Pearl White and Navy blue scheme (is a photo of this scheme on this site under 1988 GPX 600). Bought it around 1991 and sold it sometime in 1998, I was the second owner from new. When I got it there was 30000km´s on the clock - sold it with 73000kms. Great bike, was reliable but around 65000km´s the clutch started slipping - indicating worn plates. I had the flush mount indicators - very slick. Performance wise - I thought the bike was a little weak down low (forgettable first gear) - it seemed to hum at 140-160kph (don´t ask me to figure out mph...). I personally think they get a little light at the front end because the 16inch rims are the brain child of a sushi-eating maniac...funny enough a couple of years later most of the bikes were back to 17inch rims for better stability. I once wiped off the end of one footpeg...was impressed with that - you´ll know how bloody high they are. The old Kracker was a real piece of work - and my favourite bike. A little nuts, with plenty of personality. Did a lot of touring on it with saddle bags etc...now that´s living. |
