Has anyone had trouble getting a battery for an XBR? I went to a different dealer (in Northampton) the other day and the bloke there reckoned he was struggling to find one to suit my bike ´because it must be an import´. It is - I bought it in Munich in 1991. The first battery, despite much abuse, lasted 13 years. The second has now gone Tango Uniform. This bloke tried to tell me that the battery terminals on the UK-spec are the opposite way round, i.e. that the positive terminal is on the right-hand side. This has got to be a wind-up, surely? Either that or I must look more gullible than I thought. Interesting point - the electric foot stopped working a few months ago and I put that down to lack of use because I only resort to it if I stall in traffic. Then the other day on turning right the tail-lamp sensor operated and the indicator didn´t. The engine carried on running without missing a beat, so I was fooled into thinking it was something more complicated, like a suicide snail crawling up and shorting itself out in an inaccessible spot. Fortunately I still started by looking at the battery. The only other bike I´ve had which seems to run despite a knackered battery is my Norton with its magneto. It´s quite comforting to know that the bike will keep going in such circumstances. Norton |
