The news was all bad.

The bike had run a main bearing (the one on the left side). Luckily got to it before the bearing case disintegrated. Also found a crack in the crankcase from the flange behind the starter clutch, thought to be from a previous starter fault (looks like that is normal round here!)

Hard to accept given the bike has only 22oookm although it did start life as a journo and dealer demo hack so would have been ´well´ run in! The previous owner says it was otherwise regularly serviced and oiled.

While at it, the wrench noted that the hardening was gone from a number of gears, and is recommending replacement, and there is a fine crack in the head from the spark plug hole, but he says not much can be done with that and its common.

So.....

Still getting prices for a rebuild. The dilemma being is it worth fixing knowing that I should end up with a known quantity, or do I dump it and cut my looses (maybe massage a DR or XT motor into the bike)?

In NZ parlance - bugger!
