Thanks Ian - I´m getting that impression about the W16 - the starter seems to be the achilles heel of the model? Would a burnt starter cause the clattering noise down the LHS? There was a ´squelch´ noise best way I can describe it as I released the starter after a long attempt at starting it, after that the clattering seemed much more prevalent. I thought maybe the starter clutch or bearings? The starter still works. I took the little inspection cover off and pulled the top starter gear and the teeth etc look OK, although there are scuff marks on the inside face of the gear on opposing sides of the spindle hole. Wondered if the starter bearings are on the way out? Appreciate more advice.... Howard (jazz@duvroc.org) |
