When i bought my DT 125LC in 1990 all I did was remove the exhaust pipe and inside the exhaust there is a small tapered pipe which i used a grinder to remove(carefully) and my top speed went from 68mph to 82mph(approx) and it was like that for a year and caused no problems for me.
