Rare 1938 U model

I own a 1938 U model and the mechanic that I hired to do some maintenance said it is a very rare bike, that it is different from the other years of the U model. I only found one picture of the same bike on the internet, all others have different parts. Has anyone ever heard about this differences? What makes it so rare?
