I inherited my dad´s I believe it is a 1997 V-Max 1200 I´m just basically assessing everything thing on the bike while I´m looking for the title amongst my dad´s belongings and the one obvious detraction right now on the bike is what appears to be corrosion on the side scoops the RH one is in worse condition than the LH side scoop!! What I´m wondering is what is the finish on these the undersides ( the part with the rubber gaskets ) is a painted black it looks like because its bubbling and flaking but the top part is acting like zinc like the fuel fillers they get a whitish flaky coating and when I used a metal polish wadding I use on all my wheels it cleaned up that corrosion but it looks like plastic now in those bare spots!! Any information would be greatly appreciated!! I work with paints all the time but I want to keep it original if at all possible!!
