Could be that the exup itself is sticking, I had the same problem with mine for a long time, the rev counter would be fine whilst riding but once i stopped for any reason the rev counter would start showing an exup fault, turned out that the exup valve itself was very slightly bent so it was not moving as freely as it should causing an intermitent fault, got a replacement exup from a breakers for £90 and problem solved.
