Tach Code?

My tach is throwing a code, I brought it to a dealer but they wont tell me what it means without charging me $80... At any time after the key is switched on the tach will jump to 7k rpm, then drop to 0, then reset. It does this over and over constantly even while Im riding so if anyone can tell me what it means or how to get rid of it that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
