gas gauge

after not starting bike for nearly 4 months it cranked right up. I took it out, lubed the chain and tanked it up with some fresh fuel. What is weird is now the gas gauge drops to empty as I twist the throttle - when I park the bike at idle some times it starts creeping up - when I shut it off it reads full. what´s up?
