I´m in the middle of the same process. the synchro for 2nd gear is synonymous with the rf900 in all years. as you found out the top end is that of a 600 and the bottom is an 1100. I was lucky enough to find the entire gearset for $90 out of a 94 to go in my 95 with 23k on it. i figure while i´m in there i´ll overhaul the entire thing. furthermore if you wish to pull a mid 11 stock try putting a switch inline with the pink wire coming from the ignitor under the seat. when you hit the dragstrip disconnect the circuit. that wire controls the amount of power in 1st 2nd and 3rd. make sure you order gasketsand silicone sealant(I use subaru 3bond) as well as a new clutch well ahead of time. I´ve been waiting 2 months for all of my parts.
