When I acquired my ´97 gsxr 600 with 20000 km on it, my drive home on it(about 10 km) took me 4+ hours. This is just to indicate the massive fun-factor this 600 supersport holds. Not only does it have the incredible blue racing sticker-job all over its lush streamlined carenage, it has the handling and street- performance to back it up. Although I originally preferred an upside-down configuration in the front for looks&racing, I was told the conventional type used, handles better on the street. And living in a pothole-rich environment(Flanders/Belgium), I have already experienced their use quite a few times these past weeks. I personally use the bike most for cross-town traffic to work, and I must admit in these circumstances she can be a ****(nothing Keihin or Mikuni can´t fix). But once you hit the G-spot at about 6/7000 revs, this baby pulls hard and keeps pulling quite long, and even longer with a Yoshimura-pipe. To say the 600 has no midrange power is a grave overstatement, but it does lack the pull between 2000 and 6000 revs. But as already mentioned above, with Mikuni 39s and a Yoshimura-system I´m sure I can turn this baby into a ducati-killer(916 and consorts not included). The only bad thing about this bike, is the pressure you take on your wrists due to the high seating, which is high even for a supersport. But a pair of quality racing-gloves will take a lot of the strain, and to relieve your left arm, you can always adjust the gearlever because standard settings require a firm grip. This being my second bike after a ´89 kawa zxr750, it is by far my favorite. Just to compare: *zxr750: dry 200kg,100hp,wheelbase 1400+mm *gsxr600: dry 178kg,103hp,wheelbase 1385mm I thing these figures speak for themselves. By the way, I relly enjoy your site very much(despite lack of pics:) for tech-info an find it a shame that not more riders share their info on your pages. I hope my info was not all rambling and maybe helped someone, and you never know who´s next. Ride safe!!! |
