I was given this bike as a ´gift´ about 10 years ago & it sat in my garage until just recently when I decided to resurrect it. Mine is a GS-400x - front drum, kick start - my guess is it´s a ´77. It had a cracked tranny case around the oil drain (also oil drain plug stripped) - I cleaned it up, brazed it & stuck an expansion plug in there, seems to work fine. (If I tried to tap it again I know it would split again, that aluminum brazing´s not so hot for mechanical strength). I´m looking around on the net for specs to get it tuned up until the Clymer manual I ordered comes. Haven´t found anything useful yet. It´s running, a little flakey starting & idling, but when it runs seems like a nice little bike. |
