Voltage Regulator

Just picked up a used 77 XS750 for only $600 with 13,000 miles only. Need to replace the voltage regulator though as the wires broke off at point of entry (battery acid had driped down from an older battery). How do I get the voltage reg. off - doesn´t seem to be enough room to get the screws out from underneath - do I need to take out the whole battery holder assembly? If so, do I unbolt and slip out the side because it doesn´t seem that it would fit to take out from above. Anxious to get it on the road. Thanks
