There are earlier versions of the CZ 250, CZ 305 and CZ 350 that were either built in Czechoslovakia from 1974 with a flat topped speedo in headlight unit or by Aprilia under licence in Italy using Italian pistons, electrics and wiring. The Czech built 1974 CZ 250 had a top speed of 74 MPH with the rider upright and 85 MPH prone. Engine power was 16.5 BHP and 28.5 Lbs/Ft. torque at 3,600 from the rear wheel. Compression was 9.7:1 cranked. The Aprilia built CZ 250 ran Italian ASSO Werk hi-comp pistons at 11:1 and could touch 91 MPH flat out with the rider prone on the tank. Headlamp on the Aprilia version is a sealed beam unit with all wiring junctioning in the headlamp rather than under the saddle as on Czech built versions. Aprilia built CZ 125/150/175/250/305/350´s are either two tone chocolate and cream or lime green and olive green. CZ 305 bike very rare and I own a 1977/1978 version. A friend owns a Aprilia built CZ 250 so we can send a picture of an Aprilia built version. I also own a 1979 Aprilia built CZ 350 which has covered 79,000 miles and can still hit it´s original 107 MPH when fed on four star leaded. Brakes on this version feature TLS drums on both wheels. Handling on all CZ twins (and singles) far exceeds any Japanese two stroke of the 1970´s and 1980´s period though only the Aprilia built version could match them on the straights. Total dry weight of Aprilia built versions was 291 Lbs. Aprilia version CZ 250 made somewhere like 19 BHP at the rear wheel. The Aprilia version 350 made 28 to 30 BHP compared to it´s Czech counterpart´s 22 BHP mainly due to higher revving and higher compression. Gearbox is also upside down on all Aprilia built bikes. I´ll send in a picture sometime. Andy. |
