Hi All, during the 70´s i used to campagne a XS 500, in proddy events, then in to F11 events in the UK. I modified the engine by porting it, high lift cams, open exhurst, with the resulting performance to 135mph plus, est output 60bhp. depending on circuit (IOM),´79 & ´80TT, with a reprise in ´86, for Andy Knowles in the newcomers Manx. The engines will need a good exhurst port clean out for a better performance, and to keep temperature down from overheating and the resulting damage that brings. Engine longlivity is down to oil changes 2500 miles road, checking tappets easy chore, and changing to a transiter spark system (brilliant), and keeping a eye on the clutch basket etc. I could go on for thousand of words with the life and times I have spent on the bike. I ´ll end now, questions welcome. Mark |
