My 860GT is built up as a 900SS; fueltank, clip-ons, seat and it runs fantastic, especially on the track. I´ve bought it last year after it was resting in a barn for 10 years. Put new oil in, cleaned the carburettor, kicked twice and it made all the noice two Conti exhausts could make. That´s what you call a great sound.

I´ve been in Italy (she wanted to go home) and even in the mountains it was fabulous. The bike runs smooth, only in the low rpm (during traffic jams) I have to use the clutch a lot. Above 4000 rpm it realy kicks in and keeps on going until 7000 (it´s not a desmo). I use a smaller rear sprocket for lower rpm at the highway, but it still accelerates quite fast.

Ofcourse I have the standard problems with this ´old´ bike. Mainly the gaskets are sweating oil. Luckily not so much that I have to take a can of oil on my vacation. My Smith gauges are already revised, as it gave 25 km/h whatever my speed was and approx. 10.000 rpm driving around 10 km/h in fifth.

I´m still improving the bike. Fortunately all parts (even engine parts) are available, I hardly have to order parts as everything seems to be on stock. Next winter (03-04) the bike will have a paint job (the colors will stay the same) and a top half (also from the 900SS) will be mounted. People ask me why I won´t make the bike original (all parts are available), but I like it the way it is.

It´s called the ugly bike from Ducati in the 70´s, but I´m enjoiing every bit of this 860GT.
