I now have my second 860GT my first was stolen in the 1980´s. My latest was bought in a very poor state with a dropped valve on the front cylinder and cracks in both heads. In it´s original state it was an electric start model but as this was a rather disasterous system (sheding metal swarf directly into the sump) I replaced the clutch cover with a non electric start model. This is the only modification from the original. I believe that as these bikes are now over 30 years old they are classics and as such should be chopped and butchered. I notice with interest also that the value of mdified bikes seems very much less than macines in original order. My bike has had a few non original bits put on over the years including an extra disk on the front wheel (vital if you like to stop with a front brake) and various other accessories like a twin cable Tomiselli throttle control. I have taken off a set of oragiously noisey Contis and put back a set of La Franconis. My intention is to gently work away until the bike is back to spec. This is never going to be a fast bike in modern terms, it gets dragged off by 250´s these days, but it is a superb piece of machinery and despite the handle as a ugly duc, I think a very hansome machine.
