I was hoping somebody else had said something. Well I´ve had my 1000S since new in 1991. Black/Orange with cast wheels. Straight away I changed the exhausts for Armour´s stainless. Apart from the flanges breaking off which Armours then welded on properly, no trouble. But, they were too quiet and bunged so I drilled and filed them out. Instant improvement and of course the jetting in the carbs, which were too weak anyway, needed sorting. I did quite a few test runs at the time and with advice from Moto Mecca etc. sorted ´em. The throttle was far too heavy and I experimented with weaker springs but was never really happy with that even though it worked, so when there was a kit available which included new carb tops I did the conversion. I also fitted a friction type cruise control which solved all throttle problems. I tried K&N air filters but didn´t like them because the elements got rained on and they weren´t supported at the intake end so I went back to standard air filter fiddly though it is, and I didn´t seem to get any performance increase anyway with the K&N´s. There´s over 60,000 on clock now as I try and save it though I love riding it. I use the K12 mostly and the Guzzi comes out for special occasions. It´s still on the original points as I understand they have a fairly easy life and I don´t do short stop/start runs. It´s been to Wales and Scotland many times. I don´t like to tempt providence but once I´d got thing sorted apart from normal maintenance I´ve had no trouble at all. I´ve always used AGIP Sint 2000 plus added Vivax. In the gearbox and transmission I use EP90 and I add Molyslip (remember that black stuff). I prefer Michelin Macadam tyres to Metzelers as they last longer. I did fit a front mudflap as these days the mudguards seem to be more of a style decoration than functional. Helps keep gthe muck off that front engine bolt. Fitted a flap at the front of the rear guard too. Also front fork gaiters and rear suspension gaiters. A Sprint nose fairing, with mirrors, (got rid of those horrible oblong handlebar mirrors) improves both the looks and the wind protection. Givi hard luggage and Baglux tank bag for long rides completes the package; in my opinion. The bike will bimble along making a lovely noise on a whiff of throttle for sightseeing and has a decent turn of speed when I need it, always making that lovely vee twin sound. I´ve probably made one or two other mods but I can´t think of them here so I´ll submit this. I´ll probably think of something as soon as I send this. Oh the Guzzi is one bike I sometimes like to ride without a helmet, for instance when I´m going no faster than I do on my pedal cycle, when I want to really appreciate both the bike and the surroundings. Took it to Ireland for my honeymoon with my second wife one May and we had a lovely week cruising on the Guzzi and walking some of the mountains over in Connemarra, Mayo etc. The Guinness was really good (never touch it here) and the people were the friendliest you could ever hope to meet. We even had car drivers waving happily to us. Unbelievable eh.
