I have this exact same bike, but no key is required on mine to remove the gas cap. There is a cover on the cap that pivots either way. When opened, there is a small opening into the tank. I never gave it much thought, but maybe there was a lock cylinder there at one time. (I´m the 2nd. owner). I guess that´s not much help, but I look forward to discussing Tank issues with other owners.
