Sitting unused too long?

I recently found a 2012 Honda Silver Wing with less than 5 miles on it. It looks to be right out of the shipping box. My question is, what can degrade when a machine sits unused, not even started, for a long time - in this case around 8 years? The owner offers no explanation and wants to sell it.
