The first rule of cx 500 riding.. it´s not fast but it is torquey. Use this wisley and your friends will say, ´wow your bike is fast´. You will smile and say ´no, no its not.´ Freeway can be a bit lame (rpms remain a bit high to keep up with traffic), but around town it´s a superb bike, the engine noise is very unique, lots of torque and it looks like nothing else. I have stripped all the honda badges and painted it as a russian motorcycle and it fools a suprizing amount of people. Handling is comparable to a tank, but if pushied, it can handle well and can lean a long way before scraping pegs, just you work up a sweat with the effort. The single unvented disk provides subpar braking, the nighthawk is a far better performer there. The bike sports 9 inches of ground clearance, this is huge and suprizingly useful. I bought my bike for Dollars 300 and it had 6800 kms basically a steal, it had not been ridden for at least 15yrs. New battery , change the fluids and away I went. Four years later I have had to fix waterpump. ( Dollars 30) clutch plates ( Dollars 100) and replaced origional tires with aftermarket (the best upgrade you could do). That is it. CX500 has won a special place, not fast, not nimble, but fun, cheap, and lots of character. | |
