I purchased my VF500 miniceptor in 1986, and commenced to riding it hard every day for the next 5 years. It never left me stranded. On one of my many weekend runs from Tucson to Arivaca, I committed to seeing just exactly how fast I could get my stock vf500 going. On a straight section of road, in the shadow of Kitt Peak, I opened it all the way up, tucked in behind the fairing, through my feet on the back pegs and my left hand behind my back, speed-skater style. When I got to the point where things were getting scary and the bike began to vibrate, I looked down at the odometer to find the needle was laying limp at the far end of the dial...the highest odometer reading on the vf500 is 145mph! This is 20mph faster than the Honda spec sheet says it can do. Mind you, we´re talking about a stock 500cc bike here. Unbelievable performance! The VF500 is a classic bike that doesn´t require you to be a Daytona qualified rider to enjoy. But it will certainly accomodate you if you want to give it a run. |
