I´m a magna man but I wanted one of each of the big V4s. I´ve turned it into my highway bike with a hondaline faring with accessories, saddlebags, KG trunk and a corbin seat. Its a mileage crunching machine. | ||||||
I really didn´t have a heart thump for a sabre but wanted one to complement my magna. I found one for sale a few miles away and when I went to see it I was pleasantly surprised. The seating position is a little more forward and the bike really is taller than the magna. The stock seat is high (32´) but the corbin lowered it about an inch. Keep in mind, this is a 30 year old motorcycle but in its day it was the trend setter. This bike is heavy but it rides very nicely. It´s not a corner carving sport bike but with a decent pilot can hold its own against most other riders. The Sabre really shines on the road. I have my suspension set a little on the soft side in the rear with stiffer springs up front to support the factory faring. On a country two lane you can put it in overdrive and not have to worry about shifting when you see hills. One click down and you can easily get past most traffic. It makes touring a real pleasure. On the interstate, overdrive is all you´ll ever need. The power is smooth and on demand, no searching for the powerband. 40 miles per gallon and I´m ready for a break before gas becomes a concern. This bike is an all around champion. It does all things well. The motorcycle world was cheated when Honda discontinued this one. While this bike won´t win any beauty contests, it will always be one of my favorite children. |
