1200 Mile Review | ||||||
After doing alot of internet work and reading I decided the Vulcan 2000 was the one for me. I located a showroom 2005 with Kawasaki accessories already installed that included windsheild, backrest, saddlebags, and Corbin seat. After sitting on the 2000 at the local dealership I knew that I would want an aftermarket seat, and this one fit the bill.After 1200 miles in the saddle which I know doesn´t make me an expert on this bike but I have learned some things that might be useful. First of all this is not a fun bike on switchback mountain roads, let me tell you are in for a fight. If the curves are sweeping the bike handles well for a bike this size as long as you can keep the throttle open enough to keep up forward momentum.Brakes are OK, but you can sure tell this bike is heavy with the rider and a full gas tank.Ride comfort is exceptional, maybe partly due to the Corbin seat.Transmission shifting is abrupt and in my opinion clunky but not a serious problem. First gear comes on fast and is gone quick requiring a quick shift to second. Fifth gear is an over-overdrive in my opinion, basically useless except on the interstate. Second, third, and fourth are fun at it´s finest,power beyond what most riders will need or use even if you haul a passenger. Now for the down sides which some may think are picky but here they are anyway. Speedometer is off by 9 MPH too fast,when I´m showing 65 MPH I´m really doing 56MPH.The odometer is also off, when I travel 1 mile as marked by the mile markers on the interstate my odometer reads 1.2 miles.Gas mileage seems to hover around 35 MPG when combined riding. Overall I´m satisfied with my decision to buy this bike.Maybe I´ll give a 5,000 mile review but I hope this one helps someone in the market.If your after looks this bike will get them.People are always asking if the 2000 on the side means 2000 cc´s, even one Harley guy asked and just walked off shaking his head. |
