Overall, I´ve found my 98 yellow LC to be a great bike: very reliable, powerful, and comfortable. And excellent value too.

I bought my ´98 model second hand in 2000. It had 3000km on it then but now has 31,000km. I´ve been through 2 sets of tyres (average 15,000km on each set), 1 battery and a set of steering head bearings (inexpensive and I suspect they were not adjusted after the first service).

The motor was still tight until around 5,000km or so and then became more flexible.

I was initially impressed by the torque and comfort but soon added a windscreen to make touring with the wide handle bars more comfortable. Because I´m tall (6´2´), however, I had to make up a couple of brackets to raise the oem screen a couple of more inches to eliminate wind buffeting. A pair of aftermarket soft saddle bags with oem supports completed the touring set up.

The handling is good and improved for me when I increased the rear pre-load to near max (increasing ground clearance) and added the screen, which put more weight over the front wheel. I can also recommend metzler 880 tyres - they seem significantly better than the oem bridgestones.

Top gear is very tall and, although the motor is torquey, you really need to be doing over 90 km/h before selecting it. After that, you can leave it there and blast up any hill you encounter.

Fuel economy with the screen is 15km per litre and doesn´t vary much.

Overall, I´ve found it to be a great bike: very reliable, powerful, and comfortable. And excellent value.
