I am deciding now between a GW and the LT. I currently own a 1200GW ´87. By he end of next week I will have one or the other. | ||||||
Last week I test drove the LT. I went 20 miles, the high center of balance was uncomfortable but I am sure one would eventally get use to it. I loved the bike over all, it is a motorcycle in a touring machine, I never felt like I was on a big bike. It gets up and moves NOW, sound is great, features are great but do I need an electric adjust windshild¿ I am six one and need it at highest level, don´t see changing it once it is in position. Did not like all the wind that comes under it when it is high, why have a windshield with all that air. On a 30 degree turn in the country I hit gravel at about 30 mph and lost it, it just slipped away. The ABS breaks allowed me to recover without going down, BUT I ended up in the middle of the opposit lane, if a vehical had been coming the other way the dealers bike would have been totaled. My current gold wing would have held that curve with no problems. AlL said it is a lot of bike for the money and I cannot decide at this time. It may come down to price, dealer offered me the 2006 with my trade for 19000 or a 2005 for 17000. I am looking at the GW at 2006 for 15500 or a 2005 at 14000 with trade but those are bare bones base models..........If the wing corners like mine with the lower center of balance I am leaning that way, pun intended. Other big factor is the availablity of service in town or long trips. I have 5 GW dealers in 25 miles and only one BMW dealer in 135 miles. That ratio is nation wide, support is peace of mind. Also the GW has no milage on the warrentee while BMW is 36,000, and I don´t beleave BMW has an extended warrenty and GW does. I judge the raw machines as equil but the GW has more of the features I personally would like. I drive it tomorrow, and will know more then. |
