This bike is perfect for the rare moments when you look in your rear view mirror to make sure the authorities are just a memory of the little town where you last filled up.

I bought my first YZF600R with a transmission problem that seemed rather small. When you got on the gas hard in second gear it jumped back down to neutral. I soon found this problem to be quite common amonst this powerplant. After tearing everything apart I found out it was a little more involved then a simple replacement of the selector forks. After solving the problem with a new transmission, I was up and running. I am a petite rider weighing in at 130lbs and couldnt get over how comfortable I was handling what I thought was going to be a beast of a motorcycle. I rode this bike through all kinds of conditions from snow dirt and LA traffic on the 405. I did it all with a smile. I have put 35,000+ miles on this work horse and am blown away by the fact that there isnt evidence of wear. She still pulls strong up the canyons and lets me know why I am satisfied staying on a 600. I can get the front end off the ground in first and work for it in second. I think this is one of the best all around motorcycles I have ever ridden. It could definately hold taller riders comfortably as I feel the stance should be a little more aggressive and I am 5ft 10in. The five gallon tank is well placed and the .8 gallon reserve is a nice cushion. I think passengers are a little uncomfortable because they sit so far away from the driver based on the built in molding of the stock seat. As far as really agressive riding goes, the forks are a little soft even after changing the oil weight. I dont think that the avg. canyon runner would feel underclassed by power and the brakes are superb. My only complaint is that there is a noticable power difference around 10,000 rpms when you crave a little smoother delivery while in mid turn acceleration. I would definately recommend this motorcycle to the intermediate sport rider who is looking to find every road in their state that is worth ripping up all within the same getaway. | |
