I bought a used 1991 VX800 a couple of years ago to use primarily for riding to work and on weekend rides. Appearance wise I have never really figured out what market Suzuki was going after with this bike. It has aspects of both cruiser and sport bikes which give it an unusual if not homely look. Any shortcoming in its appearance is more than made up for in the way the bike performs on the road. The 63hp 800cc V-twin pulls hard all the way up to a top speed of about 110mph. Loads of torque is available at the twist of the throttle making the VX an enjoyable bike to ride both around town and on secondary roads. Unlike many bikes that require the rider to constantly downshift when riding on secondary roads, the VX happily runs along in 5th gear as low as 40mph without complaint. Just point her into the curve and if you come out the other side at 40mph or above its twist the throttle and on to the next curve without the need to shift. Low maintenace shaft drive and liquid cooled engine are pluses. |
