I owned a vt5oo c model for 8.5 years and sold it to a friend . Immediatly went shopping for another bike found this figured I knew it except for riding position and bought it with drag bars . The cam was nowhere near as mild as the Vt500 c and it took me months to pass a tractor trailer on the highway and NOT be doing in excess of 100 mph on this bike ! Smooth and precise this machine Steers well Brakes well and Goes like the proverbial bat out of ... ! For a 500 cc bike it can hang with the modern 600 machines without strain . 3 valves a hot cam and 2 plugs per cylinder are quite the combination and totally stock ! I have Michelins on mine but I´d feel better with Dunlops . My shop reccommends the Michelins though . It doesn´t like to sit in cold weather (gummy carbs in 3 Weeks) otherwise little more than normal maintenance keeps it happy . Not much carry space or leg stretching room (I may still put highyway pegs on it) and passenger comfort is not high . Low to the ground it´s probably great for the inseam challenged but I am 5´9´ . Not too heavy and wears it´s weight low down (center of gravity) so it is easy to turn push or maneuver . Funnest bike I have ever owned ! | |
