This bike will bite your head off if you don´t respect it ... but if you do - riding it will be one of the most awe inspiring (and potentially trouser filling) experiences of your life! | ||||||
I bought this bike new after sampling all the competition in 2003 (both 600 and 1000cc) ... in fact, I only test rode it to prove to myself that I didn´t want what the bike mags were all hailing as ´the king of sportsbikes´ that year ... how wrong I was, no other bike that year was on the same planet, let alone country!! If you are considering buying this bike though, check your insurance premiums, ensure you have a full set of leathers (0-200kmh in 7 seconds won´t leave much skin on your hide if you ditch it!!) and ensure you can live with having to fit a new set of tyres every 3 or 4 thousand km´s (with normal / spirited riding!). Other comments - OEM paint is crap, so expect it either to be peeling and/or chipped; fit some aftermarket rearsets; ditch the stock mudguard/number plate holder (if this hasn´t already been done); add crash bungs (OEM plastics are EXPENSIVE!); front brakes tend towards being a bit spongy - fitting decent aftermarket braided brake lines cured this for me ... not the best 2´s-up machine though!! ... this bike will ´put-put´ through town, so is usable as a commuter. Its riding position and so touring ability is good too (in comparison to other sportsbikes), and it actually does give you some decent wind protection (you need to tuck in though once you pass 200kmh/120mph) ... but at the end of the day, this bike was designed with one very distinct purpose in mind ... to go fast - and that it does with unbelievable ease both in straight lines and round the twisties. If mental is what you are looking for, then you can stop looking ... |
